How to Add Merge Field Switch for Currency Formatting | Microsoft Word

word Aug 31, 2022

When you Merge Fields in Microsoft Word, sometimes your numbers are not formatted correctly. Do you want to add currency settings to your merged numbers? Here is how!

When you add merge fields to your Microsoft Word documents, you may find that numbers don't merge into the format that you'd prefer for your final document. My sample here would show 2000 instead of what I need, $2,000.

You can toggle (Alt+F9) to view the merge field codes and add a SWITCH to the end of it to control your final formatting. I have to add {MERGEFIELD AWARD\# $####,0}. There are lots of variations to this. See the article from Microsoft below.

Here is more about the merge fields directly from Microsoft. Click the About Field Code Syntax. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/insert-edit-and-view-fields-in-word-c429bbb0-8669-48a7-bd24-bab6ba6b06bb
